2014 BMW 335D – Ceramic New Car Protection Detail

RGK Detailing • March 2, 2014

The owner of this 335d wished to have his new car properly prepared and protected from day one, so booked my new car protection service, the owner (aware that dealerships do not have the time to prepare each car properly often resulting in unsightly paint defects being inflicted) had advised the dealer on numerous occasions not to wash the car at all, unfortunately the message didn’t reach the valeting bay and the car washed, resulting in some very light marring overall and a few areas where the marring in the paint finish was more severe,

Polishing was undertaken with a Festool Shinex rotary, spot correction was done using a CG Hex polishing pad and Menzerna PF2400, with the rest of the paintwork being refined with Meguairs 205 on a 3M finishing pad, this enhanced the gloss of the finish, prior to the sealant being applied.

The owner being a keen car care enthusiast is happy to top up the protection on his car whenever required so opted for a polymer based sealant to be applied, Britemax Extreme Elements was chosen for its durability and slickness.

The car was delivered straight from the supplying dealer to my unit, before and during the washing and decontamination stages,

Starting with the wheels, these were cleaned inside and out, Carpro Iron x (fallout remover) was then applied to help dissolve any iron particles which were present, this is necessary so that the wheel sealant which will later be applied has a perfectly clean base to bond to.

The body of the car was then soaked in R1NE snow foam to help break down any grease and loose dirt prior to a thorough power rinse, each surface was then gently hand washed using a Carpro wash mitt, paying attention to intricate areas using a selection of soft detailing brushes,Iron x was then applied to help break down any iron deposits which would come into contact with the paintwork during the cars transportation via railway from the factory, the car was then hand washed again, rinsed and any tar deposits and glue residue from the factory applied protective sheets were removed, the car was then moved indoors to be clayed which removed any remaining bonded contaminants,

The following pictures show Iron x dwelling on the paintwork, any iron which is present then turns purple.

One of the first jobs was to fit a boot lid spoiler and remove the Xdrive badge as requested by the owner, this was done after the boot lid received a single stage machine polish, and before any protection was applied, so that the adhesive would bond with the paintwork properly.

The following pictures show all the areas worst affected by the dealership prep,

Gloss black trim showing the usual spider of swirls

Small but deep scratch on the rear bumper, too deep to fully remove, so its appearance was improved, and the edges of the scratch were rounded off.

Carpro DLUX applied to the wheels,

And these are the results, after two days.
